To reduce energy use, NCNU has actively increased the use of renewable energy on campus. On August 20, 2020, the university signed a contract with the Nantou County Government for the "Green Roof National Participation Project" and constructed 4,129.39 kWp of solar power generation equipment on campus in 2022. In 2025, the solar power generation capacity reached 16,709.20 GJ (4,641,444 kWh), accounting for approximately 38.4% of the university's annual electricity consumption.
By 2026, the university will install an additional 4,353 kW of solar photovoltaic (PV) equipment over the outdoor courts. This will bring the total campus solar PV capacity to 8,482 kW, with an estimated annual generation of 37,894.18 GJ (10,526,162 kWh), covering about 90% of the university's overall electricity demand.
The electricity generated from renewable energy is supplied directly to campus buildings, effectively reducing dependence on the public power grid. Through these initiatives, NCNU serves as a role model for environmental protection and welcomes community visits to observe the renewable energy systems and promote sustainability education.

Extensive rooftop solar photovoltaic panels installed on the cafeteria building to supply daily operational electricity.
Installed across multiple instructional and laboratory building rooftops, enhancing green energy generation capacity.
Utilizes dormitory rooftop spaces for clean power generation, relieving peak demand from the municipal grid.
Rooftop solar matrix providing clean electricity directly consumed by the facility.
The wind turbine converts kinetic energy into electrical energy, directly supplying power to campus buildings and reducing grid reliance.
Sponsored by the Central Region Water Resources Office, this system utilizes retained rainwater flow to drive generators for campus electricity.
Integrated into the accessible elevator, this unit reclaims potential energy during elevator operation and feeds it back into the building's electrical circuit.
